FTC DECODE 2025-26

Uncover the power of artifacts and unlock mysteries using STEM skills and teamwork in this archaeology-inspired challenge.

THE CHALLENGE

DECODE challenges teams to investigate artifacts from different eras. Robots must collect, launch, and classify artifacts into goals while managing gates and creating specific patterns to maximize scoring.

GAME ELEMENTS

  • Collect purple and green artifacts
  • Launch artifacts into goals
  • Classify artifacts down the ramp
  • Manage gates for ramp clearing
  • Score overflow artifacts
  • Create pattern alignments (MOTIF)
  • Return to base in endgame

SCORING BREAKDOWN

Autonomous: Leave launch line, classified/overflow artifacts, auto pattern bonus

TeleOp: Classified artifacts, overflow scoring, pattern completion, depot scoring

Endgame: Base parking for ranking points

STRATEGY FOCUS

  • Consistent intake and shooting
  • Efficient gate management
  • Pattern (MOTIF) alignment
  • Cycle time optimization
  • Alliance coordination

STRATEGY

PRE-GAME ALLIANCE STRATEGY

Strong scouting team captures alliance strengths and weaknesses. Real-time data analysis enables strategic planning and helps devise optimal match strategies when partnered with alliances.

AUTONOMOUS

  • Consistent robot movement from starting position
  • Accurate navigation using Pedro programmed paths
  • Successful scoring of game elements
  • Reliable sensor-based actions
  • Reduced errors through testing and tuning

TELE-OP

  • Smooth driver control and responsiveness
  • Efficient scoring during match play
  • Coordinated teamwork between Drive team and Human Player
  • Quick recovery from mistakes
  • Improved strategy through practice matches

END GAME

Complete parking capability for alliance and us. Maximizing points in final seconds through strategic positioning and element placement.

SWOT ANALYSIS

STRENGTHS

  • Diversity among team members
  • Strong facilities and time management
  • Multi-team program experience
  • Worlds and Invitational championships experience
  • Improvisation and problem solving

WEAKNESSES

  • Funds for initial setup
  • Experience with FTC - still developing
  • Team structure changes
  • Shortage of STEM industry partners

OPPORTUNITIES

  • Learn advanced robot design and programming
  • Compete in qualifiers, regionals, and invitationals
  • Practice teamwork and leadership
  • Mentor new members and share knowledge
  • Engage with community through outreach

THREATS

  • Limited build and meeting time
  • Hardware failures or part shortages
  • Strong competition from experienced teams
  • Budget limits affecting upgrades
  • Schedule conflicts with competitions

THE MACHINE

FTC Robot Design
INTAKE SYSTEM
Tapered ramp with compliant surgical-tubing roller. 1620 RPM miter-gear motor for high-friction, reliable ball capture. Angled geometry centers game pieces.
TURRETED OUTTAKE
Dual 6000 RPM motors drive turret through herringbone gears. Lazy Susan bearing enables smooth, stable rotation for accurate scoring from multiple angles.
DRIVETRAIN
Mechanum-based drive with belt-driven system. GoBILDA motors with 312 rpm provide optimal balance of torque and speed. Dual-axis odometry for precise autonomous navigation.
SOFTWARE & AUTO
Custom Pedro pathing with FSM architecture. Limelight tracking and color sensing for adaptive gameplay. Constants tuned for consistent performance.
